What Is Dermoscopy?

A process which enables our podiatrists to look closely at your skin or nails using a special magnifying tool called a dermatoscope. The dermatoscope reveals colours and patterns beneath the skin’s surface that are not visible to the naked eye. Regular dermoscopic screening by podiatrists can help identify suspicious lesions before they progress, especially in high-risk or hard-to-see areas.

  • Over 17,500 new cases of melanoma are diagnosed annually in the UK.
  • It is the 5th most common cancer
  • Legs are a common site for melanoma

Why Is Dermoscopy Used In Podiatry?

  • Assists in diagnosing skin conditions such as moles, warts, and fungal infections.
  • Helps detect early signs of skin cancer, including melanoma.
  • Differentiates between nail trauma and fungal nail infections.
  • Monitors changes in skin and nail conditions over time.
