What is a MSK & gait analysis?
Footscan Gait Analysis is a sophisticated process used to evaluate the way a person walks or runs, Footscan by Gait and Motion Technology captures detailed pressure and force data from your feet during standing, walking, running, and balancing - providing a comprehensive biomechanical profile. The data gathered helps to assess a individuals lower limb biomechanics, which enables our Podiatrist to gain valuable data to help provide a tailored management plan.
Benefits of an MSK analysis: Footscan helps identify the root causes of everyday foot and limb pain by revealing hidden pressure patterns, gait imbalances, and movement inefficiencies – allowing our podiatrists to tailor treatment and prevent further injury. Footscan tracks how each foot moves through the gait cycle - heel strike, midstance, toe-off. It highlights asymmetries that can lead to knee, hip, or lower back pain. Footscan maps pressure distribution across the foot during standing and walking, pinpointing areas of overload that may contribute to heel pain, forefoot discomfort, or arch strain.
This data helps your clinician to further understand your biomechanical profile. The information gathered during your MSK + Gait Analysis assessment enables your clinician to provide data-driven rehabilitation advice and optimise your treatment pathway.
What is plantar foot pressure analysis?
This technology is utilised to analyse specific areas of peak plantar foot pressure. The report allows the specialist to map and track where your body weight (centre of mass) is situated at specific intervals during each step. Once the Podiatrist has mapped your barefoot walking pattern, we will discuss if orthoses (medical devices), footwear adaptions, splints or a lower limb rehabilitation plan could help your individual need and optimise your foot function. Optimising walking or running patterns (biomechanics) can help to reduce foot, ankle and lower limb pain or prevent sports related overuse injury such as plantar fasciitis, achilles tendinopathy and illiotibial-band syndrome (runners knee).
Who can benefit from an MSK appointment?
Gait analysis is suitable for anyone who is experiencing musculoskeletal pain during walking or running, and sports-related injuries. It is also suitable for those without pain looking to improve efficiency and to help prevent injury.
Tested: Footscan goes beyond visual observation, uncovering biomechanical causes of pain that traditional assessments may miss.
Unique: Even for patients without current pain, Footscan can identify risk factors and support proactive interventions to maintain mobility and comfort.
Insight: Patients receive visual reports that help them understand their own movement patterns
Personalised: Our Podiatrists use Footscan data to design rehab exercises, bespoke footwear advice, or orthotics tailored to each patient’s unique movement profile
