What is a fungal infection?
Fungal skin and nail infections are common conditions caused by microscopic organisms that thrive in warm, moist environments. On the skin, they often appear as red, itchy, flaky patches—commonly known as athlete’s foot when affecting the feet. Fungal nail infections can cause thickening, discoloration, brittleness, and sometimes pain or separation of the nail from the nail bed. These infections can spread through direct contact or shared surfaces like showers, gyms, or swimming pools. While not usually serious, they can be persistent and may require topical or oral antifungal treatments to fully resolve. Early diagnosis and treatment help prevent spread and discomfort. If you're unsure whether your symptoms are fungal, our podiatrists can assess and guide you toward the most effective care

FAQ Section
How long does fungal nail treatment take?
Healthy nails grow slowly. While the fungus is killed quickly, it can take 6–12 months for a clear, healthy nail to fully grow out.
Are shop-bought treatments effective?
Over the counter treatments often fail to penetrate thickened nails. We professionally thin the nail, allowing treatments to work much more effectively.
Can I wear nail varnish during treatment?
Standard varnish can trap moisture and worsen the infection. We recommend avoiding polish during the initial healing phase.
